Celebrating the art and lives of Kiron Sinha (1916-2009) and Gertrude Sinha Hirsch (1911-2011).

Dr Verna Blewett and Dr Lily Hirsch are social researchers based in Adelaide, Australia who have worked as consultants, researchers, and academics. From 2007 to 2011 we spent extensive time in the company of Kiron Sinha and Gertrude Sinha Hirsch undertaking long-form interviews of the couple about their lives and the history and background stories of their works.

They have also interviewed over a hundred people with connections to the artists and have researched the artists’ family papers and they haven’t stopped yet! They have photographed the oeuvre of the artists’ work, built a website, and listed their comprehensive Catalogue Raisonné with the International Federation of Art Research.

BulbulArt is managed by Gertrude’s Australian family – her niece, Verna Blewett and great niece, Lily Hirsch. Both have been traveling in India since January to March 2023, celebrating the art and lives of Kiron Sinha (1916-2009) and Gertrude Sinha Hirsch (1911-2011). Kiron Sinha and Gertrude were both a close friend of ASUDEV and shared a wonderful relation which had often influenced their creative pursuits particularly during the early phase of their life. They collaborated during their stay in Shillong and later in Guwahati for small stints during 1950s.

The visit of Dr Verna Blewett and Dr Lily Hirsch at AAFTAA, Guwahati on Saturday, March 18, 2023  had been long awaited. The evening on this day had a long meaningful interaction in a pursuit to join the small bits of nostagia in an attempt to create a big visual picture of the artist families. Art connect of the two pioneer artists Kiron Sinha and AsuDev, by the next generation connected through the visual imagery and soulful halucinated memories of our connection… There seem to be too many similarities of the two artists through their life times and artistic creations.
